_MG_4138About Martyn Gleaden

An insane genius, weaver, photographer, painter, sculptor, life model, coffee snob, fly tyer, writer, graphic designer, and crazy dog owner.

Based in the Winterborne Valley between Dorchester & Blandford Forum, Martyn is influenced both by the scenes of rural Dorset, and his Bipolar illness which takes him from seeing the darkest depths of depression through to a crazy and manic world of whirling colours and forms.

His ambition as an artist is to explore his manic depression in images – but so far his only claim to high artistic achievement is that David Hockney once spilt a cup of tea in his lap…

Martyn’s graphic influences include Francesca Woodman, Rodney Smith, Wynn Bullock, Franz Messerschmidt, Lucien Freud, Antony Gormley, and David Hockney, but without owing allegiance to any of them.

His sole ambition used to be to rule the world – until his wife told him he had to stay home and decorate, so he now divides his time between art, drinking lots of espresso and green tea, avoiding housework, and searching for the best “cheese on toast” café in Dorset…
