Twill Weaving Practice

I’ve spent a few hours this afternoon practising my Twill weaving on my Dryad Table Loom after totally re-threading it. I did have the loom threaded in a complicated pattern but after doing a sample I decided I didn’t like it so pulled it all back out and un-threaded the heddles.

Luckily there’s only ninety threads in the warp but even so it took a couple of hours to redo 🙁  The new pattern is a straight 2/2 Twill which makes a lovely soft material of diagonal stripes, perfect for a warm winter scarf.

I realise that some of what I’m saying is gibberish to many of you as, like most old crafts and occupations, weaving has a language all of it’s own. What I intend to do sometime soon is write an “idiot’s guide” to weaving terms on my blog, but in the meantime you’ll just have to accept that weaving is part craft, part art, part mathematics, part magic, and totally fascinating 😀
